for marriages in trouble

Every month I spend an intense three-day weekend with couples in crisis. Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN graciously allows me to procure professional settings for these LovePath 911 workshops. Couples come from around America (or the world, for that matter) to decide their future together.

Some come because both wish to save the marriage if possible. Others come to prove that they cannot stay together and want the “final” evidence to affirm that. Some drag, cajole, or lead their spouses there even though that spouse has no desire to save the marriage. Sometimes those reluctant spouses come to assuage guilt, others to get their pastors, parents, or friends off their backs, and yet others to get a better deal in the divorce.

I developed my first intensive weekend in 1999. In addition to leading those workshops myself, I trained others to lead the workshop with great success. In 2008 I revised the workshop to make it more effective. The new version is one of the most amazing weekends I’ve ever been part of. As my psychiatrist friend Dr. Charles Hayden says, “It has to be from God. You aren’t that smart.”

Over the last decade the success rate has been 3 of 4 couples. Considering the reluctance of so many that come — and the high number where one spouse is currently involved in an affair — that percentage is nearly miraculous. (I don’t mind using that word because God does His thing to make it happen.) I believe that with the new improved version the success rate will be even higher.

The workshop is extremely reasonable in price. The equivalent time in marriage counseling would cost about a thousand dollars more. Beyond that, I offer a money back guarantee less a small administrative fee if both spouses feel that it wasn’t worth it. For those in financial difficulty, I’ll even finance the fee. If the couple is willing, one of us will call their church and ask for assistance.
